The September issue of Vanity Fair is on newsstands. “So what?” you say. “What does that have to do with WhoWhatWearDaily.com and this beauty story?” Relax, dear reader, and we’ll explain our non-linear logic. See, the September issue means that it’s officially back-to-school time in our minds. Back-to-school means new pencils! While thankfully we don’t have a class schedule, we do miss new school supplies. Naturally we’ve transferred that desire to beauty products, and hence, today’s story. We’ve gathered some of the season’s best new products for your reading pleasure (some limited edition items are included, so get cracking if you like anything above).
- NARS Lip Gloss in Chantaco, $23, beauty.com
Without a doubt, NARS is one of the most fashion-forward cosmetic companies around, so naturally we always await their new products excitedly. Our favorite new shade of lip gloss is NARS Chantaco. The rhubarb color used for the F/W 07 Michon Schur show and looks like your natural lip color—only slightly darker (even better)! Pair it with a headscarf and some Fendi sunglasses and you’ll look just like a modern Jackie O!
- Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color in Tulipe Noir, $19, neimanmarcus.com
Invariably, the most coveted nail polish colors come from Chanel. This season’s limited edition shade—Tulipe Noir—is no exception. It’s one of three shades the company launched for their Fall beauty collection and the deep, purple-ish garnet is definitely our favorite. The polish is dark, but not black, and has little flecks of gold that subtly catch the light. We found some online at Neiman Marcus, but you’d better move quickly as we’ve already seen rogue bottles (and their hefty prices) popping up on eBay.
- Lipstick Queen Oxymoron in Minor Crisis, $20, barneys.com
New from Australian Poppy King’s cult-label Lipstick Queen is the funny-named, fantastic-idea product Oxymoron. Available in four shades, exclusively at Barneys, Oxymoron is ideal for anyone who likes multi-tasking products and/or isn’t a fan of the texture of matte lipsticks. The lip and cheek color has the light, satiny feeling of a gloss but looks matte on the mouth. We think the rosy Minor Crisis, seen above, is going to have a makeup mavens following as soon as the word gets out.

We sort of have a girl crush on Gucci Westman, Lancome’s International Artistic Director. She’s got an adorable husband (designer David Neville of Rag & Bone), still gets her hands dirty doing makeup for New York Fashion Week, and always comes up with great new colors for Lancome. This Fall 2007 collection is a stunner overall, but for the sake of brevity, we’re just going to discuss the Destiny Cube. It reminds us a little of Sweet Secrets (those Transformers-for-girls toys), though Westman actually based the design on an 18th century Chinese secret box. Two different cubes are available, Charisma and Deep Fascination, each containing two shades of shadow and two shades of lipstick. Thakoon fans take note: Westman used the shadows from the Deep Facination cube at his Fall 2007 show!

We’ll be the first to admit that these fake eyelashes are freaking ridiculous and seem to be channelling The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert (love that movie). However, they’re just too gorgeous to leave off this story even if they’re not—admittedly—going to be a part of your day look. Jemma Kidd Essential Makeup Box, $30, bergdorfgoodman.com
We ran out of space because “someone” in the office insisted on running the crazy lashes picture, but for those of you still reading , we’ve got a little secret to share. As you probably know, there are lots of makeup cases out there but most of them are either a) ugly or b) boring. Enter Jemma Kidd! The model-turned-makeup-artist has her own line of cosmetics, tools, and products. The Makeup Box is a cute, pink, faux-leather case that’s slim enough to fit into most bags. It’s also a long, narrow, hard case so you can toss your makeup brushes in as well without fear of the bristles getting squashed. Now, aren’t you glad you kept reading? No answer is necessary.
