Bashiri is a brand of baskets. The baskets are weaved by hand, which is impressive. It’s handwoven, so it’s durable and secure. Durable and safe signifies that you can save money and receive the quality you paid for. It’s a win-win situation for both parties. You receive a sturdy and fashionable basket, while the artist receives funds to continue creating lovely baskets.
They also sell masks, statues, artifacts, bags, textiles, jewelry, artwork, stools, and paintings in addition to baskets! Is it not thrilling?
Their Objective
Their goal is to raise the global visibility of West African artists. Since 1997, they have worked with the same artisans and weavers, and they believe in supporting and appreciating the artists they purchase from, as well as dealing at local and fair market pricing. Before making a purchase, they establish relationships with each artist and supplier and learn about the things they create.
Bolga Baskets, Masks, Statues, Artefacts, Bags, Textiles, Jewellery, Art, Stools, and Paintings – each object is handcrafted, original, and teaches us about the history and culture of the region.
Through Bashiri expanding international network, hopefully the recognition and preservation of West Africa’s truly remarkable culture can be strengthened.
Their business practices
They believe in supporting and appreciating the artists we purchase from, and they conduct business at fair market prices and locally. Before making a purchase, they establish relationships with each artist and supplier and learn about the things they create.
Their annual trips with these artists and suppliers improve their relationships with them. They feel that this reciprocal loyalty and respect generates positive karma and results in the creation of these excellent things with more pride, respect, and care.
Director Simon personally purchases their Bolga Baskets in northern Ghana’s Bolgatanga satellite villages.
Since 1997, they have been collaborating with the same weavers and have built a productive, ongoing collaboration that employs over thirty locals and their families.
Due to the fact that they deal directly with the artists, there is no certification, despite the fact that the trading circumstances are identical to those of approved programs.
